Anthony A. LoPresti, Managing Partner

Prior to founding LoPresti & O’Reilly, Anthony managed several boutique firms in New York City, including Meltzer LoPresti, LLP, a law firm with offices in New York, Colorado and Shanghai, China. Mr. LoPresti practices in all areas of civil and commercial litigation, with a focus in corporate law and business transactions, entertainment, media & intellectual property. He has represented diversified clients ranging from transportation and construction companies, international trading, textile and fashion concerns, to investment groups, start-ups and joint ventures, entertainment, media, marketing and e-commerce companies, to magazines, photographers, artists, fashion designers, actors and writers. He has also represented numerous ventures in the hospitality industry, including top restaurants and gourmet food markets throughout New York City. In addition, he has managed numerous cases concerning foreign and international law, involving unique forums such as Germany (tort and contract), China (import/export), and South Korea (import/export and high tech investment).

In administrative, regulatory and constitutional law, Mr. LoPresti has represented both private and not-for-profit entities, as well as elected local officials and members of the U.S. Congress, to oppose numerous entities that have exceeded their authority, such as:  the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (building & fire code compliance as to the site of the new World Trade Center and other Port Authority properties)(Skyscraper Safety Campaign, Inc., et al. v. Cty. 2003]); the FCC and Environmental Protection Agency (cellular phone radiation guidelines); the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission (oil & gas development); the City Counsel of New York, the New York State Department of Transportation and the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission (denials of licensing and regulatory issues); the New York State Thruway Authority (obstruction of railroad right of way and Rail Trail nature conservancy); and the County of Ulster and City of Kingston, New York (oppressive taxation).

In 2003, Mr. LoPresti, along with current New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and a team of attorneys brought an Article 78 proceeding challenging the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) decision to raise subway, bus and commuter railroad fares. The petition, which was brought on behalf of Petitioners that included future governor David A. Paterson, was successful (N.Y.P.I.R.G. Straphangers Campaign, Inc. v. Metro. Transp. Auth., 765 N.Y.S.2d 422 [N.Y. Cty. 2003]), but was eventually reversed on appeal (N.Y.P.I.R.G. Straphangers Campaign, Inc. v. Metro. Transp. Auth., 309 A.D.2d 127, 763 N.Y.S.2d 13 [1st Dep’t 2003]). However the case did lead to greater transparency over MTA finances and operations. Over the years Mr. LoPresti’s legal representation on various matters has resulted in cases of note, reported in case law reports, legal publications and local and national press.

Mr. LoPresti also has considerable experience in the business world as both an entrepreneur and consultant. He has formed and managed several media, transmedia, e-commerce and film/TV production companies in New York. As a business consultant he has been hired to draft numerous business plans, proposals and offering statements for small and medium, domestic and international companies, and to perform due diligence assessments and reviews, for a multitude of diverse industries.

On a pro bono basis, Mr. LoPresti has represented and worked with numerous charitable entities, such as the Legacy of Hope Foundation (helping to build the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital), along with a variety of not-for-profits supporting, among other things, veterans, education, the disabled, human rights, civil rights, community rights, environmental rights, and animal rights.

Through this lawsuit, Mr. LoPresti has helped promote a more open, honest and accountable democracy in New York State.”

Mr. LoPresti is an Associate Producer of the 2014 Academy Award® winning film The Lady in Number 6, which won an Oscar in the Best Documentary Short category, and which told the story of Alice Herz-Sommer, concert pianist and the world’s oldest Holocaust survivor.
